The HSD is receiving over $50,000 in exterior lighting fixtures thanks to a new grant from Clark Public Utilities. The program, designed for schools and businesses, is a win-win: It creates more capacity by reducing energy consumption and it upgrades HSD lighting while reducing energy costs. There is yet another win for the HSD: This grant does not require matching funds or require a payback schedule!
This lighting project retrofits exterior lighting fixtures at the Hockinson Community Center, Hockinson High School and Hockinson Heights Elementary. Hockinson Middle School, built in 2017, was not eligible for this program because it already has high-efficiency LED lights on its campus.
Opportunities like this one are especially important for the HSD as it grapples with reduced funding. To counter the effects of lower-than-expected enrollment and state and federal funds, the HSD is seeking partnerships and new ways to become more efficient. This program, along with our existing Strategic Energy Management program with Clark Public Utilities, achieves both goals at one time!
